There’s No Such Thing as an Excuse
Wipe Excuses from Your Life
It’s human nature to try to justify things that happen. We blame the weather, we blame other people, or we blame circumstances. That’s just how we’re wired. So it takes a little bit of time in order to realize that there’s no such thing as an excuse. There are no bad excuses, there are no good excuses, there are simply causes and effects.
When you are able to get rid of the excuses, and you understand that everything happens because of something that you did, then it’s easier to take control of your life. Your mindset changes, and you start to see that you have the power to make your life the way you truly want it to be.
There are Causes and Effects
How many of us know that person that loves to complain? They’re late for work and get written up, but it’s the boss that has it out for them. They blow a tire because they didn’t maintain their car, and if it’s not one thing it’s another. They spend their money at the bar, and when they don’t pay their electricity bill it gets shut off, but they can never catch a break. Sound familiar? Usually we don’t see the first part of those scenarios, and the way they claim to constantly be the victim it can appear that they are the recipient of unfortunate circumstances.
But here’s the thing: everything happens because of what you did.
You got stuck in traffic on the way to work, but if you had taken an alternate route or left 5 minutes earlier that wouldn’t have happened. You get the flu and are laid up for a few days, but if you had washed your hands and used hand sanitizer you would have eliminated the germs that made you sick. When you assume responsibility for everything that happens to you, you can move past the victim stage. When you are able to move past the victim stage, you can set yourself up for success.
Get Started by Expecting the Unexpected
Are there going to be circumstances that are beyond your control? There absolutely will; there’s no way to know that the car behind you won’t be paying attention and will rear-end you at the next light. It happened because you decided to take that road at that particular time, but it was still out of your control. The difference between the victim and those that experience success in their lives is how they respond. The response begins with expecting things to sometimes not go your way.
Now you can see these circumstances as problems that have arisen that may need a unique solution to solve them. You can’t use them as excuses to not get things done, because there are no excuses, just circumstances. Are you going to spend your energy on making excuses and playing the victim, or are you going to spend your energy on moving forward and creating a better life?
Set Circumstances into Motion
There are two types of people: those who act, and those who are acted upon. The person that you know that always plays the victim card and nothing ever seems to go his or her way, that person is being acted upon. They are allowing themselves to be used and tossed around. But when you wipe excuses from your life, and you start to realize that nothing happens to you, but it all happens because of you, then you can set circumstances in motion for things to go your way.
Just like we have the victim friend, we also have the friend that everything seems to work out for them. Have you ever wondered why? It’s not that they are luckier than anyone else. It’s that they have expected setbacks, and they stop to think on how they can overcome the problem with a solution that ends up making a bad situation work out for the good. Before the day even begins, they have set circumstances into motion to make sure things work out in their favor.
Don’t Be Passive
If you want to create a better life, then don’t let things happen to you! Make them happen because of you. Get rid of excuses, no matter how good or reasonable they are. The only thing on your mind should be, “What can I do today to make sure everything goes my way?” And then set it into motion.
