The Importance of an Auto Body Repair Estimate
The Estimate is Part of the Repair Process
After you’ve been involved in an accident, you have a lot on your mind. Not the least of your worries is how you’re going to get the vehicle repaired! Dealing with the insurance companies doesn’t make things any better either. In order to make life easier for you, we have streamlined the repair process as much as we can.
The auto body repair process begins with an estimate on how much the repairs are going to cost. Keep in mind that these are estimates and if more damage is discovered when the vehicle is “opened up” the cost could end up changing.
Getting an Estimate
In the past the estimate involved taking the vehicle to the auto body repair shop, waiting until it was done, and then making the decision to take it in or not. Fortunately technology has changed a lot of that.
Here at Big Sky Collision Center we have a crash repair app to help make life easier. It walks you through the process of what make and model vehicle, what the damage is, and then you take pictures of the damage. In the end, it sends us an email and within 24 hours (in most cases) you get an estimate via email.
With the electronic estimate we are very accurate in assessing the damage and what the repairs will run. However, we can’t see everything with pictures. To get a more accurate estimate it’s recommended to bring the vehicle in. Just give us a call at 406-259-6328 and we can get you on the schedule.
Dealing with Insurance Companies
Insurance companies are in the business of collecting premiums. When it’s time to make a claim, they are in the business of finding a way to deny the claim. They get a bad rap, but if they paid out every tiny claim ignoring the nuances, they would go bankrupt really quickly.
To streamline their processes and to ensure that they profit as much as possible (or lose as little as possible when paying a claim), they have auto body repair shops in Billings that they want to work with. Perhaps these shops have built relationships with the companies, perhaps they do the work and charge the insurance company less, or perhaps there is some other partnership set up. For whatever reason, the insurance company is able to suggest where you should take your vehicle for repairs, but they cannot tell you where to take the vehicle. It’s called your right to choose.
Here at Big Sky Collision Center, our goal is to make it easy for you. Let us deal with the insurance company, you just bring the vehicle in for high quality auto body repairs.
The Estimate Includes Wait Time
When you get the estimate for repairs, you will get an estimate on how long it will take to have the repairs completed. For instance, we may quote you 7 to 10 working days (That means it could be just over 2 full weeks from when you bring it in until you get it back).
That’s assuming shipping for parts is on time, no other damage is discovered, and (hopefully not) human error that delays the process. If all runs smoothly and shipping is quick, then you’ll get your vehicle back quickly. However shipping can be delayed, problems encountered, and people can slow down (we’re all human, sometimes we get sick and miss a day of work).
Estimates for auto body repair include an estimate of the time to complete the work. It could be longer, and hopefully it will be shorter.
