Stay Safe After Your Vehicle Breaks Down
How to not Get Run Over
At some point in your life, you’re going to run into car troubles. It might be as minor as a flat tire, or as major as a blown engine. Regardless of what incapacitates your vehicle, you want to make sure that you can get things fixed up without being involved in an accident that will lead to auto body repairs as well as mechanical repairs.
Here are the five steps to take when you’re experiencing car troubles, and how you can get back on the road as quickly as possible.
Get Out of the Way
If you have a flat, your vehicle dies, or it’s suddenly making a pop pop clunk click bang noise, quickly and safely get to the side of the road. It’s imperative that you are able to get fully out of the way of traffic so that a motorist that isn’t paying attention doesn’t plow into your vehicle. If you break down while at a stop, push your rig to the side as soon as you can safely do so.
If you do have to push, make sure your hazard lights are on, and you’re jumping out in front of traffic to do so.
Get in touch With Help
Most of the time a break down won’t necessitate a call to the police; unless you break down because some has shot out your tires. But in reality, you will most likely need to quickly call either a tow truck, or someone with a truck and a tow cable to get your vehicle to a place it can safely be fixed.
Get Motorist’s Attention
Depending on where you break down, you may need to take an extra step or two in order to ensure that you don’t get hit. If you’re in town and in a highly visible spot, the use of your hazard lights may be all that is needed. But if you’re near a blind corner, or on a road with a little higher speed limits, then road flairs or warning signs can be used to help people know to slow down.
Get Help from the Professionals
You’re handy with a wrench and believe it’s a quick fix. That may be true, but the side of the road is no place to pop the hood and take a closer look at what may have gone wrong with the engine. Finding a trusted mechanic to fully diagnose the issue is imperative. Or at least get it back into your garage!
Get a Grip
Breaking down never happens when you’re out for a leisurely drive with nothing to do. It happens when you’re in a hurry, and ends up making you late for work, missing appointments, or at the very least causes a big inconvenience. Get a grip on your emotions, and practice some patience. Getting riled up only makes the problem that much worse!
