Minor Fender Bender; Major Damage
It May Not Look Bad, but…
Here’s the scenario: you’re involved in a fender bender that doesn’t do a whole lot. It was low speed, and you end up with a dented bumper and some paint scratched. Or maybe you slide through an icy intersection and bump into a rock, post, or another vehicle. You inspect and think “It’s minor; I’ll skip the auto body shop.” The problem, however, is that damage isn’t always seen.
Whenever your vehicle is damaged, more than paint scratches, you need to have it checked out. There may be underlying issues that need to be addressed. Let the best collision repair shop in Billings explain what they are.
Electrical Systems Failure
Behind panels, through doors, and barely covered by a bit of sheet metal is a whole lot of wiring. These wires, for the most part, are sound. But a little jostling can cause them to loosen and potentially fail. Even a front end collision can knock things loose. There’s no way to inspect these without taking off panels, so a technician will have to dig in and look.
Tire Alignment Out of Whack
Your wheels are aligned so that theoretically you will drive in a straight line even without touching the steering wheel. Of course road variations make it so you don’t truly go just straight, but that’s the idea. Even small fender benders can lead to the wheels being unaligned. Bad alignment, in turn, leads to uneven tread wear. Uneven tread wear can cause the tires to fail. At best, you have to replace them.
We’ve talked about frame damage before. To the bare eye, it’s impossible to see (most of the time). While you can check for it with our system of checks, minor frame damage can end up causing a multitude of problems. A small bit of frame damage may end up leading to worse damage in the event of another collision.
Engine or Mechanical Issues
The engine is a finely tuned machine. Small bumps and jostles can cause it to not work properly. These may show up as transmission problems, rubbing wheels, suspension and steering problems, or even more serious problems that show up months from now as parts prematurely wear out.
