Leadership Principles You can Use in Real Life
It’s Not All About Running a Business
Here at Big Sky Collision Center, we train leaders. But what does that mean for the rest of everyone else? Often we see leadership training as applicable to those who are leading an organization or a group. The truth is that these principles can be applied to your everyday life.
As we strive to be the best auto body repair shop in Billings, we want to make sure that we are offering great information that you can use. See how you can incorporate these principles into your life today.
We generally think of intelligence as how much “smarts” we have. But when it’s applied to emotions, it means how much control over our emotions and underlying feelings we have. Think about your life for a bit… do you get overwhelmed quickly? When driving, do you suffer from road rage? Are you easily brought to tears when someone doesn’t like your idea? Then this is an area that you should work on.
Those with a high EQ know that there are going to be nasty people out there. Sometimes you will have a great idea, and people will try to cut you down. Sometimes you will have a terrible idea and people will call you names. Separating your feelings from thoughts (when appropriate) is an important skill to have.
When your ideas are cut down, or when you put them to the test and they simply don’t work, you need to be able to adapt. Too often we get caught up in one of the two fallacies of change. The first, change is never good; stick with what you know, and the second, change for change sake is the best, are both equally damaging.
Change is necessary. Sometimes changes come slowly, and sometimes they come quickly. As a human you need to be able to adapt and maintain even through those times of change.
Of course even the best of us need to be coached sometimes. While you may have a high EQ, able to adapt, and understand things intuitively, being open to coaching will set you far above the rest. What often happens with us, as humans, is that we get pretty set in our ways thinking nobody knows better.
When we can break away and accept instruction, we will hone in on all of these traits. Coachability, perhaps, should come at the top of the list and be labeled the most important.
Do you have that one friend that constantly shares things on social media? And they are always sharing from the same source? What ends up happening is they get lost in their own little bubble. They fail to understand that there is a whole world out there and different worldviews.
Support from those who think along the same lines as you is important. But it’s not more important than embracing disagreement. Understanding the alternatives can lead to a more well-rounded worldview that is empathetic and accepting of all people.
