Improve Yourself by Improving Others
Everyone Grows when you Invest in Other People
Personal growth is a goal of many people. But too often they get stuck in the cycle of trying things out. They purchase a book, seminar, or class and try to make themselves better. They learn a bunch of new concepts, and they get very excited. Unfortunately knowledge without application doesn’t lead to much. There is a better way. At Big Sky Collision Center in Billings, MT, we are in the business of training leaders. And there are many ways that we accomplish that.
“We cannot hold a torch to light another’s path without brightening our own.” – Ben Sweetland
Invest in Others to Improve Yourself
American author Ben Sweetland is known for his amazing one-line insights. The profundity of these insights can help anyone; whether they fix cars for a living, flip burgers for a living, or file taxes for a living. Let’s take a closer look.
We are in the business of training leaders, we just happen to be good at fixing cars. But despite what your mother may have told you, people aren’t born leaders. Leadership is a skill and a trait that you have to work toward and practice. But even with a lot of training, you still aren’t a fantastic leader.
After we have attended leadership training, we practice those skills with the rest of the Big Sky team. As we light the path for each other, our own path becomes lit as well. Our skills are enhanced as we help others improve on their own. In the end, everyone is in a better place.
If this sounds a little familiar, then thank you for reading our previous blog post regarding being mutually beneficial.
Do Good, Be Good
Leadership is all about investing in other people. It sounds like it’s a selfless role that is bound to leave the person leading drained. In reality, the more you lead the better you become so you can lead more and ultimately become even better. It’s a give, to get, to give, to get, to give type of deal.
Are you leading in such a way that you’re practicing your skills all the time? Are you able to grow with your employees so that the entire organization is enhanced? Are you lighting the path for someone else, while lighting your own?
