How to Embarrass Your Friends and Family
Embarrass Them in a Good Way
Many years ago there was a group of young, aspiring musicians. They would stay up late in the garage writing music and honing their craft. They knew in their hearts that someday they would make it big, and they knew that it would take some hard work and dedication to their art.
They put together original songs, and were ready to make their entrance. After performing for a talent scout at a recording company they were told, “Thanks, but no thanks.” In short, the recording company told them that their style of music was on its way out, and they would never succeed in the industry.
That group of young musicians were known as The Beatles.
Imagine how the talent scout felt as he was watching his television, or reading the newspaper, sometime later and came across that very group of young men of whom he essentially said, had no talent? There is no doubt that he was embarrassed!
The Easiest Way to Embarrass Your Friends and Family
The easiest way to embarrass your friends and family is to bring up embarrassing moments during gatherings. But embarrassing them in that manner isn’t even remotely kind. In fact, it can wind up burning bridges and causing a lot of hurt and problems.
Instead, embarrass them in a way that makes them “eat their words.”
You may remember our post from December 2016 regarding failure. We took a look at 10 famous people, and looked at how they had failed time and again. Instead of giving up, they tweaked their approach and tried again until they succeeded.
Those are precisely the steps to take when you are met with the words, “It can’t be done.” If you have ever been told that you aren’t good enough, or it can’t be done, or that you won’t succeed, don’t take them as absolute truth. Take them as a challenge, and then set out to embarrass that person when you succeed and they are left to eat their words.
A Caution about Relationships
Causing another to be embarrassed is a slippery slope as it can lead to damaged relationships. So when it comes to embarrassing friends and family, your job is to do so with tact.
This means, no gloating. No pushing and pressure. No words like, “You said it couldn’t be done; you were wrong!” Instead, allow them to embarrass themselves, and you take pride that you were able to accomplish the unaccomplishable.
