How Often Should I Detail My Vehicle?
Auto Detailing is Important for your Vehicle
Driving a clean vehicle isn’t just nice, it’s important to remain safe on the road. But life happens and sometimes our rigs can get a bit dirty without us finding the time to ensure they are clean. That’s why it’s even more important to schedule your regular auto detailing.
The issue, however, is how often do we need to have them detailed? Is it enough to just wash and vacuum out the interior and call it good? There are a few factors that come into play; here’s how our expert auto detailers at Big Sky Collision Center break it down for you.
The Baseline for Professional Auto Detailing
Keeping your vehicle clean is more than just vanity. Doing so helps to ensure that you will arrive at your destination safely.
A clean vehicle is a safe vehicle. How many times have you struggled to see through the windshield as the sun was setting because it was so caked with bugs, dirt, and road grime? Have you ever had items in your vehicle that rolled under the pedals? Have you ever sat on something and tried to move it while driving? Dirty vehicles can be a distraction.
A clean vehicle is a valuable vehicle. If you have a collector’s car or a luxury automobile, it’s even more important to keep it clean in order to help it maintain its value. Dirty cars are more prone to damage (dirt on the outside acts like sandpaper against the paint).
A clean vehicle has fewer issues. Dirt can get into tiny places if it’s not vacuumed and wiped up in time. That means letting your vehicle get too dirty can literally cost you more money in repairs.
Because of the importance of keeping your vehicle in top cleanliness shape, we recommend you have it professionally auto detailed at least once every year. Even better, have it detailed every spring and fall.
How Often to Detail a Luxury Vehicle
Because your luxury vehicle can tend to be more of an investment than a liability, you want to ensure that it stays in top shape. Here’s the good news: you really don’t need to have it professionally detailed more often than any other vehicle. Twice each year will really deep clean it and get the grime off.
What should be done more often, however, is cleaning between the detailings. That’s exactly what our Puppy Scrub is designed to be. It’s not a full-on auto detailing, but it’s a wash and a vacuuming that will keep your rig looking nice all the time.
For a luxury or collector’s car, detail it twice every year, and wash and vacuum it at least once each month.
How Often to Detail an Older Vehicle
Now this all begs the question of what you should do if you have an older vehicle that you really don’t care a lot for. Perhaps you are rocking in a 1997 Honda Civic that gets 35mpgs and you aren’t terribly concerned with washing the dust and pollen off of it. How often do you detail an older vehicle?
The answer is that you should still look at once each year. Every spring set that baseline of cleanliness. Through the summer driving season you can easily wash and vacuum it at home, and maintain the clean vehicle. By the time the winter ends, it will be getting a little dirty again, and it’s time for another full auto detailing.
