How Distracted Driving Compares to Drunk Driving
Both Drunk Driving and Distracted Driving are Dangerous
We all know that we shouldn’t drive impaired, but statistically speaking, over a third of drivers do it. Throughout the years, as fewer people are drinking and driving and cars are becoming safer, the number of traffic fatalities has gone down considerably. But it’s still an epidemic.
We recently put together a side by side comparison to see how the two look. As it turns out, Americans need to do a whole lot better behind the wheel.
Drunk Driving vs. Distracted Driving
As you can see, drunk driving still kills more people, but the trends are that the two are swapping places. Fewer drunk driving fatalities, but more distracted driving ones. It’s not surprising since even just looking at your phone for 5 seconds, while travelling 55mph, will allow your vehicle to travel over 300 feet!
As we head into 2018, please make the commitment to save a life, perhaps your own, by putting the phone away and calling a cab, friend, or Uber if you have had a drink or two.
